How Often Do Builders and Contractors Switch Products or Brands?
As building products and brands compete for market share, understanding the level of loyalty that builders and contractors have can be a critical success factor for LBM dealers and manufacturers. The behavior of switching may occur due to various factors, such as product availability, pricing, recommendations, etc. Principia’s monthly survey provides insight from builders and contractors on their frequency of switching products or brands in the last 12 months.
In general, the results from our respondents are unsurprising. The chart above depicts higher frequencies of switching in cabinets, countertops and plumbing fittings/fixtures. These highly fragmented product markets are more susceptible to change compared to roofing and insulation where respondents reported the lowest frequency of switching products or brands.
